Remediates impairment and promote mobility, function and quality of life through examination, diagnosis and physical intervention. Physical interventions include various source of energy such as light, heat, electrical current, water manual skills and by exercises.
Our physiotherapy department had undergone a renovation on 7-04-2015. The newly equipped department was inaugurated by BCCI President Sri. T C Mathew and blessed by Honorable Arch Bishop MAR. Andrews Thazhath. Department provides rehabilitation treatment for patients who had undergone Orthopedic Surgery, Neuro Surgery, Joint Surgery and Cardiac Surgery.
Exercise Therapy Department:- Highly sophisticated THERA BAND WORK STATION for whole body muscles strengthening exercises.
Electro Therapy Department:- Most modern electrotherapy equipments such as LASER THERAPY UNIT and advanced COMBINATION THERAPY UNIT.
Laser Therapy Modality:- Very effective for the management of open wounds (Ulcer, Pressure Sore), inflammatory arthropathies (R.A, O.A), soft tissue injuries (Tennis Elbow, Golfer's Elbow, Plantar Facitis, Muscle Injuries),) Pain relief (Acute and Chronic).
1. Tread Mill Assisted Stroke Gaiter:- For Ambulating Physicaly Challenged patients following stroke.
2. FES (Functional Electrical Stimulation): For training functional activities follwing a neurological disorder such as strocke, GBS, Polyneuropathies.
3. Balance Training Devices:- Swiss Ball, Stability Trainer, Woogle Board.
Short wave has a frequency of 27.12 MHZ and a wavelength of 11 metre. It provides heat deep in the tissues, and hence called as through heating. It improves circulation and helps to relieve pain and muscle spasm. It is used for the treatment of degenerative joint diseases such as osteoarthrosis, lumbar and cervical spondylosis, periarthritis of shoulder. Contra indications for treatment by short wave includes metallic implants, tuberculosis, carcinoma etc.
Interferential therapy is a form of electrical treatment in which two medium frequency currents are used to produce a low frequency effect. It is used for the relief of pain in cervico brachial neuralgia and intervertebral disc prolapse with sciatica. It provides motor stimulation and used to stimulate pelvic floor muscles in the case of urinary incontinence. It produces absorptrion of exudate and used for the treatment of pedal oedema.
Ultrasound Therapy is a treatment by ultrasonic waves with a frequency between 1 MHZ-3 MHZ. and a wavelength higher than that of audible sound waves. It accelerates tissue healing and tissue repair and used for the treatment of soft tissue injuries such as ACL injuries, tennis elbow, plantarfacitis, supra spinatus tentdinitis of shoulder joints.
It delivers intermittent and static cervical and lumbar traction. It is used for the treatment of cervical spondylosis and lumbar spondylosis. Ideal weight for intermittent cervical traction is 5-7 Kg and that for intermittent lumbar traction is 20 – 60 Kg.
It is apparatus used for the mobilization of knee joint to prevent joint stiffness and improves function. It is used post-operative conditions such as total knee replacement, ACL reconstruction, fracture shaft of femur. The treatment time is 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Molten Wax and liquid paraffin are mixed in a ratio 2:1. The ideal temperature for wax bath is 35 – 45 degree centigrade. It produces superficial heat. It is used for heating distal segments of body parts such as wrist, finger joints, knee, ankle joints. It is applied prior to mobilization of joints post – operatively. It is also used for the treatment of small joints in rheumatoid – arthritis for the relief of pain and joint stiffness.
Department provides six months internship training for graduates in physiotherapy and project and research work for post graduates in Physiotherapy.
